In our efforts to continue to provide fun events for our Scouts.

A number of parents and leaders have shown an interest to have a bowling event for our District.

This fun event will help our Cub Scouts to earn their bowling belt loop and also most important have fun with other Scouts from the District.

Also our Boy Scouts and Scout Leaders can also compete to be the Top Bowler in the District in perspective levels.

This will be held on Saturday, June 8^th at St. Monica Lanes from 4-8pm. (See flyer attached)

We need your help to make this success!!!

How?

By being an active member to do the following for this event:

· Promote this event and register online by June 3^rd so we can track how much supplies and awards will be needed( SEE ATTACHED FOR FLYER AND ONLINE LINK)

· Be at the event to help Scouts to judge who will be the Top Bowling Scouter.

· Have FUN at the event with everyone!!! ( PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOU KNOW-OPEN TO ALL SCOUTS FRIENDS AND FAMILY)

Dear Scouts and Parents,

There will be no meeting Saturday 25 May due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

However, there may be a Cycling Merit Badge bike ride that Saturday pending we have enough participants.

There is a call out for volunteers for Sunday 26 May to participate in the Memorial Day Observation at St. Thomas. This is an annual event where members of the Troop participate in a ceremony in recognition of Memorial Day.

Unlike Veterans' Day where all veterans are recognized. Memorial Day is to recognize those men and women of the military who made the ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives in service to the nation.

Those Scouts participating must have a complete Class "A" uniform. Any Scout who volunteers to participate and does not have a complete uniform needs to see me. Volunteers will have to attend a practice session and be at St. Thomas for the most of the service on Sunday that day.

Scouts who wish to participate need to speak to the SPL (senior patrol leader) Ronovan Bundy.

The ceremony takes place at the end of service. Scouts should arrive approximately 1000 hrs (10:00 a.m.) at St. Thomas. Release time will be approximately 1300 hrs (1:00 p.m.)

Dear Scout Family,

By now you may heard via the news that our beloved Scout Headquarters Building located at 22^nd and Winters Street will be taken away from us effective 30 June 2013. As I knew efforts were under way to do this, no one from Council officially talked to any of the Triune District unit leaders about what was going on. We found out via the news.

Since that time no one has spoken to us about what the future will hold. As of right now after 30 June we will have no home for us as a District and no presence here in the city. No one spoke to us because they did not think they needed to or that we, you, or our Scouts mattered enough to at least say what they were going to do.

The fact that they can announce that we are being evicted on 30 June but can't tell us where our Scout officials will be in the city on 1 July is also a statement in itself that we, your, or our Scouts don't matter. City officials as well have made a political decision that we, you, or our Scouts do not matter enough to ensure there is a Scout presence in the City.

I will not make this a long treatise on my emotions and feelings about what has happened. I am feeling more sad and defeated than anything. However I refuse to give up trying to provide Scouting for our youth especially here in Philadelphia. If you choose to do anything you can write your council person or the mayor and let him know you are disappointed at the lack of support for Scouting in the city and how you believe that Scouting has value.

Mr. Thomas Harrington, will be leaving soon as the Chief Scout Executive for the Cradle of Liberty Council as a result of a promotion. Prior to him leaving you can write to him to say that you believe that Scouting matters in the City and that our Scouts here deserve the same respect that Scouts get in the suburbs.

Please let your friends and family know that no one will gain from evicting us from our building and the result will be further erosion of Scouting in the City. This action just like the previous actions to evict us had only one effect and that it served nothing more than to hurt those youth in the City who were benefiting or could have benefited from Scouting.

I have attached some documents that have come out. You can read the words about a commitment to serving our youth. Words do not provide meeting space for Scouts. Actions make Scouting works and a commitment to provide the same opportunities to all youth regardless of where they live.

Dear Leaders,

Please note that on Saturday we need to have as many Cubs and Cub Scout parents present as possible. We will need to have a regular meeting, but also note that we will have a representative from Tufts University visit us in regards to the current study and survey that is taking place.

If you have forgotten, this is the Tuft's University study regarding boys in Scouting versus boys not in Scouting to see if there is any noticeable difference in values from those boys who were in Scouting versus those that did not participate in Scouting. This is the first such study of it's kind and we were honored to be selected to participate.

Just to let you know we are the only Triune District that has responded through the first phase and we are entering the second phase. Ms. Arlene Gray has some documents that need to be complete, i.e., identifying those Scouts who participated in the first survey to see if they are still around.

Those who participated will be receiving a gift card. On another note, we have lost the HQ Bldg at 22nd & Winters Street. I have already sent out some information to Boy Scout parents and I will send something out to Cub leaders and parents. If you have any questions please let me know.
