Dear Scouts and Family,

This coming Saturday 2 FEBRUARY will be our Third Annual Pancake Breakfast. This is a major fundraiser for us at a time when we need money for activities and events.  Everyone was asked to report their tickets sales this week to Ms. Donna Haughton or Ms. Samantha Pearsall so that we can project an estimated number of attendees for our caterer Mr. Steve Buck to purchase food.

Mr. Buck is donating the food, as a result we need to be extremely cooperative in providing him a number that is accurate as posssible to avoid over buying food stuff for the breakfast that will go to waste.

Please immediately contact Ms. Haughton or Ms. Pearsall if you have not already done so and give them the following information;

  • Total Number of Tickets sold (i.e., money you have received versus tickets you were given)
  • Number of donations sales (e.g., person who purchased tickets, but told you they were not coming)
  • Account of any money you have on hand and/or tickets that you will be turning.
To contact Ms. Haughton and Ms. Pearsall please use the contact information below;

Thank you,

Dear Scouts and Parents,

Please note the following three events that are coming up or are in progress.

Scout Breakfast - Saturday 2 February

We are currently selling tickets to our 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast open to all.  All Scouts should have received at least five (5) tickets to sell.  This is a very necessary fundraiser to aid to our Scout funds and to continue our activities.  Tickets were distributed by Ms. Haughton and Ms. Pearsall our Troop Treasurers.  All monies should be turned in to them. Tickets are $10.00 each with children under 10 eating free with a paying adult.  Please turn in your money so that we can have an accurate account.  We have a limited 250 tickets and we would like to sell them all.  Do not wait to last minute and if you cannot sell your tickets please turned them back in so that we may try to sell them.  Deadline for ticket sell turn in is Saturday 26 January.

Gifts of the Magi Service Project

Our current service project is collecting men clothing and toiletries for the residents of St. John's Hospice a homeless shelter for men located at 12th and Race Streets.  On top of the priority list is new underwear of all sizes and belts for the pants.  Toiletry items like tooth brush, soap, deodorant and other personal hygiene items are always welcomed.  Clothes should be cleaned and serviceable and ready to wear without repairs needed.  We will collect them items until the end of January.  There are two boxes for collection.  One is near the Undercroft or primary entry and the other is on the upper level near the Great Hall.

Mardi Gras 2013

The Men's Fellowship of St. Thomas is the sponsoring organization of the Scout Program.  Last year they donated in excess of $1,000.00 to the Scouting program and they collect additional money to the annual dues to donate to the Scout program.  On Saturday 8 February they are holding a fundraiser Mardi Gras party where a portion of the proceeds will come to the Scout Program and thereby directly benefited your Scout.  I will have tickets for sale this Saturday and will ask that some parents consider attending as representatives of the Scout Program.  Tickets are $35.00 per adult.

Dear Scouts and Parents,

St. Joseph's University has cleared us to start swimming again.  Our time there is 1730-1900 hrs (5:30-7:00 p.m.)  So swimming will start this Saturday 19 January  and Scouts should bring swimwear.

Additionally, Scouts should be bringing a lock to secure their clothing and valuables.  There is a conflict at the pool so there will be no swimming the following Saturday 26 January.  If that changes you will be notified.

Regular meeting this Saturday starting at 1500 hrs (3:00 p.m.) promptly. Class "A" uniform is the uniform for the day.  If your Scout is in need of uniform items and you did not get a chance to complete a Uniform Inventory Form, please let me know my sending the item such as shirt size or pants size. THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE ON SUPPLY THE ITEM.

This information is used when we have the opportunity to procure items and make them available at the Thrift Shop.  Additionally, please note there will be a Parents Meeting Saturday 26 January starting at 3:30 p.m.  If you cannot be there please send a representative.

Volunteers will partake in various activities on this day – mostly, however, painting inspirational murals throughout the insides of whichever school they choose to volunteer at (we pre-sketch the murals, so you don't need to be an artist – you just need to know how to paint between the lines!). There is also the possibility that you may be craft-making for community groups in the area, and helping build new classroom structures. These schools are going to be completely transformed by the end of the day – we're all very excited to see the final product.
All children under the age of 18 will need to bring a waiver filled out by an adult to the event.

BOY SCOUTS: LINCOLN THE MOVIE - Saturday 12 January - 6:00 p.m. Show

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Date: Jan 10, 2013 1:42 PM
Subject: LINCOLN THE MOVIE - Saturday 12 January - 6:00 p.m. Show
To:
Cc:

Dear Scouts and Parents,
The movie 'Lincoln' which has receive numerous accolades and recently an Oscar nomination is said to provide a good history lesson.  There will be a 1800 hrs (6:00 p.m.) showing this Saturday 12 January.  We will leave from St. Thomas at approximately 1700 hrs (5:00 p.m.).  The show is approximately 2.5 hours meaning we should be returning to St. Thomas approximately 2100 hrs (9:00 p.m.)
This cost for Scouts is $5.00.  The Scout program will pay the other cost of the ticket price.  For advance ticket purchase and possible discount please respond as to whether your Scout will be attending prior to 1600 hrs (4:00 p.m.) Friday afternoon. Scouts should bring their money on Saturday to include any snack money.
We will may have use of the Church van, but will also need some parent transportation assistance.  Ms. Sandi Anderson one of our Troop Committee members has volunteered to be the Transportation Coordinator.  You may contact Ms. Anderson at  Sandra.Anderson@genexservices.com
When you communicate with Ms. Anderson please let her know now how many seats you have available or how many Scouts you can transport.  As a reminder for all those who help transport Scouts, driving is considered the Number 1 most dangerous activity in Scouting.  This ranks above swimming, boating, and other high adventure activities such as climbing.
All drivers of Scouts should remember to use seat belts and insist on seat belts for all passengers.  Pay particular attention to speed limits and traffic signals.  For your information there is an online Driver's Safety course on the BSA national website www.scouting.org,  Passing this course may qualify for lowering rates on your insurance premiums.
There will be a regular meeting starting at 1500 hrs.  Full Class "A" uniform.  Scouts are hereby notified that a point system may seem be implemented regarding regular uniform wear.  Meaning patrols will begin to receive points as part of a uniform inspection.  Points will not be awarded for Scouts who failed to wear their uniform or do not wear the uniform properly.  New Scouts have a 60 day exemption from the uniform rule.  Patrols earning the highest amount of points will be rewarded. This is an effort to improve proper uniform wear and compliance.

Yours in Scouting,

J.R. Brockman
