Dear Scouts and Parents,
Traditionally, I would say Merry Christmas, of course I am aware not all of us celebrate Christmas, but this is a festive time and as Scouts and as a Scout family we can come together and say to each other enjoy the holidays whatever you celebrate.
I would like to share a story with you that illustrates, just how great our Scout program is and why I am so proud to be a part of this program. A man came to the Church seeking help. He had just lost his job, he had five kids, ages, 10 to 2 and wanted to know if he could get some assistance.
Father Bonney, the assistant priest called me and asked could we do something. I told him to let the man go through our collection box and have him take some toys from there. I told him to tell the man to come back on Christmas Eve right before the service and we would have more.
Thanks to you and your donation of toys we were able to initially help the man and his five kids. I met him on Christmas Eve right before the Christmas Eve service at
The man had one other request. He wanted to know if he could get a gift card to a supermarket. He said since his lost his job his kids had not had a good meal. We were able to help with some donations for food.
Thank for you making such a thing possible. This could not have happen without you. As the new year comes in I look for us to help touch the lives of more people.

Fwd: Merit Badge Counselors - BOY SCOUTS

Subject: Merit Badge Counselors
Hello Leaders,
Once a Boy Scout reaches the rank of First Class, advancement is up to his initiative. To earn any additional rank up to including Eagle he has to earn merit badges.
If you are new to Scouting and don't know what merit badges are, they are awards for demonstrating knowledge or skill in a particular area. They are like college courses where some are hard and some are difficult.
Like college courses Scouts have to earn certain required merit badges to become Eagle. In total he must earn 21, eleven are required. The remainder are those of his choosing.
There are more than 100 merit badges covering just about every subject imaginable. Attached is a listing of the current merit badges. If you go to the website www.meritbadge.com you can find the requirements for each merit badge.
To earn a merit badge a Scout must complete the requirements as prescribed by the merit badge pamphlet. He then must consult a counselor who will review his work. Prior to this, the Scout comes to me or one of the other Scoutmasters and we will give him a blue card which is sort of a permission slip saying he can test for the merit badge.
Once the counselor is satisfied that the all of the requirements have been completed, the counselor signs the card. It is returned to us and we then record it and award the Scout the merit badge normally at an awards ceremony.
To become a merit badge counselor you can read the requirements at www.colbsa.org and to go to Advancement and then go to Boy Scout Advancement and the to Merit Badge Program and then to Become a Merit Badge Counselor.
However, right now if you are interested, I can sign you up by you simply telling me what merit badges you feel you are qualified to be a counselor for. As an example, my prior aviation training qualifies me to be a counselor for the Aviation Merit Badge. Mr. Beauvais would be natural fit for the Citizenship Merit Badges and the Law Merit Badge.
Mr. Joel Wilson would be an excellent candidate for the Computer Science and Entrepreneur Merit Badge. While there is no limit on the number of merit badges a counselor may be qualified to sign off, I would recommend no more than six to seven.
You can have your option to be a counselor for just our Scouts or you can sign up to be a counselor for any Scout in the district. I can provide more detail at our leaders meeting on Saturday, but review the merit badge list that is attached and let me know if you are interested. Mr. AW has informed me that I can register without the headache of all the normal paperwork if I can get your name in time.
There is a critical need for an ample supply of merit badge counselors and in my capacity as the chairperson for the District on merit badge counselors, I would appreciate your support if you sign up to be a counselor.
Thanks

Fwd: BRING TOYS FOR ST. BARNABAS

Subject: BRING TOYS FOR ST. BARNABAS
Dear Scouts and Parents,
In my haste to get information out I had a typo regarding toys for St. Barnabas. The correction is
YES, PLEASE BRING TOYS FOR ST. BARNABAS ON SATURDAY 18 DECEMBER.
Unfortunately I do not have a specific list, but their ages range from infant to teen. With your gift please specify if it is for a girl or boy and the age. Please think of something for the older teen age girls who often are forgotten about.
Gift cards to Target may be an appropriate alternative. If for some reason you cannot bring your gift on Saturday then bring it Christmas eve. St. Thomas will have Christmas Eve service on Friday starting at 7:00 p.m. I plan to collect up toys that parishioners bring in and deliver them to St. Barnabas that night after service. You can bring your toys anytime that day on Friday.
Thank you and I apologize for any confusion.

Just earlier this year, Sam’s father passed away. I know you will join me in offering your prayers and sympathy for Sam and his family. Continue to keep them in your prayers. I have reached out to Ms. Morse and told her with great sincerity that if there was anything she thought that we could do to help to ask with out hesitation.
Lacking verse or prose at this time, I can only say look upward and then bow our heads and thank God for the blessings that we have and ask that he comfort Sam and his family at this hour and in the days to come. May we step closer to one another and offer what we can to be of service to those of us who need our help.

Hello Cubs and Scouts, and Parents,
Our Scouting for Toys service project will involve collecting new and unused toys for the children of St. Barnabas Mission.
We are asking each Scout and Cub to bring a toy this year to donate to St. Barnabas. Please bring your toy to the year end holiday party to take place this Saturday 18 December. We will take our donation to St. Barnabas directly after the holiday party.
We do not set a dollar limit on the gift, but the average toy is in the range of $10.00. Feel free to substitute a gift card for a toy. One example is to select a local store such as Target.

Thanks Giving Can Food Drive Easy as 1-2-3! :)
Parents,
I know what your are thinking! I don't have the time, I am tired, we just sold popcorn, etc. However I am happy to tell you in less than 1 hour these four Cub Scouts collected all these items from just 1 block!
Easy Tips for Success!
- Scouts should be in Class A uniform (the uniform is the main selling point!)
- SAFETY - Go During Sunlight!
- Scouts must be accompanied by an adult. Fee free to team up with other scout friends within Pack 133 from same neighborhood or school, etc.
- Scout should knock on door, while adult is close by and highly visible.
- Suggested Scout Script: "Hello my name if [first name only] and I am with Cub Pack 133 and we are collecting Can Foods for the less fortunate for Thanksgiving. Can you help us?"
- Scout must say "Thank you" regardless if a donation is made or NOT.
- Leave BSA Scouting plastic bag affixed to door handle if no one is home.
Do Forget, Channel 6 News will be out at 9am on 11/20 to interview Scouts in Class A Uniform with their Parents or Guardians. Don't worry, adults don't have to be on TV.

Please note this Saturday begins our Scouting for Food Drive where we collect can goods for St. Barnabas Mission. St. Barnabas is a homeless shelter for women and children is located at 60th and Girard Streets.
This Saturday we will distribute bags. The Boy Scout Troop will distribute bags throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Next week Saturday 20 November, we will need to go back through those same neighborhoods and collect all can goods left outside for us to pick up.
Cubs and Scouts are asked to take bags home to distribute through their neighborhood and are asked to bring can goods to St. Thomas next Saturday. All donations will be delievered to St. Barnabas on Monday 22 November at 7:00 p.m.
Please note there will be NO MEETING Saturday 27 November due to Thanksgiving.
There will be a Parents Meetings for Cub Scout Parents at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday 4 December. ALL PARENTS OR REPRESENTATIVE NEED TO BE PRESENT.
Registration for this year will be closed effective Saturday 4 December. YOU MUST TURN IN ALL YOUR REGISTRATION FEE, REGISTRATION FORM, AND CLASS 1 MEDICAL FORM (No Physician needed on this form) TO BE REGISTERED FOR THE YEAR.
Checks or money orders should be made out to CUB SCOUT PACK 133 and turned in to Mr. Walt Livingston, Unit Treasurer. Cash is acceptable, regardless of payment ensure that you receive a receipt for all transactions.
We ask for your cooperation to ensure we have all Scouts properly registered. We are excited about the possibility of our growth in membership reaching 30 or more Scouts. This will be the highest number ever of registered Cubs if the tentative roster proves to be true.
In closing I would like to thank Mr. Joel Wilson, the leaders and parents who helped out with our Pumpkin Palooza. This was a grand success that I hoped everyone enjoyed. This event is already on the calendar for next year.
