BeAScout.org Has A New Face!

BeAScout.org, a tool developed by some of our local councils (including the Cradle of Liberty), has been adopted as the National Online Recruiting Tool by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America! Over the next few months, Scout Units across this nation will begin using this tool to speak directly to the parents and guardians of future Scouts.

We would like to thank you for your use of beAscout.org since it was released and your constant feedback as to how we could improve this tool.  We have passed on many of your comments to the National Council and are proud to announce that this newly released tool adds some highly desired features to this already powerful recruiting tool.

We invite you to explore this new release of the beAscout.org tool by first reading our "Resource Guide."  There are some steps that you will need to go through before you are able to access your leads.  If you experience any problems with this new tool, please contact your District Executive for additional assistance.

Website Volunteers Needed!

We are in the process of developing a website committee, which will be active this summer.  The Committee will have 2 primary objectives:

  1. Identify problems with the website and propose solutions for those problems.
  2. Begin work on improving our website.

A knowledge of web-design is not necessary for objective 1.  We are looking for volunteers who have some ideas of how we can improve the way our volunteers and parents access information on our website.

If you do have some knowledge of web-design, your assistance with objective 2 would be greatly appreciated.  Youth members are welcome to participate in this committee.

The Shining Light website has been updated with a new ticket order form and coupons for Dorney Park & Wildwater Tickets.  Please read below for more information regarding this event.

The Cradle of Liberty Council will be teaming up with three area councils to produce "A Shining Light Across America."  Scouts from four councils will be joining together in Allentown, PA on July 31st at Coca-Cola Park, home of the Iron Pigs, the Triple A affiliate of the Phillies.  During this evening event, Scouts will enjoy live bands, a Kid Zone, exhibits from zoos and amusement parks, fireworks, and much more.

At this 100th Anniversary celebration we will be joined with the National Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, VA through a live broadcast to see the Jamboree's closing show on the Stadium's Jumbo Outfield Screen.

Discounts to area amusement parks (Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom) will be available for units planning a full day's activities.

Alex Boyes Memorial 5k Run / Walk

The first annual Alex Boyes Memorial 5k Run / Walk will be held on Saturday October 16, 2010, in memory of Alex Boyes – an Eagle Scout and Unami Lodge Brother. We ask your support in publicizing this event.

Alex lost his fight against cancer and passed away on Sept 17, 2009. In his memory, his family is sponsoring this 5k Run / Walk which will benefit Gilda's Club, which helped the Boyes family through this tough time. Gilda's Club offers support free of charge to anyone that has been touched by cancer in their lives.

The 5k Run / Walk will start at Warminster Park and end with food and fun at Gilda's Club. All profits will go to Gilda's Club, benefiting a restoration of Alex's Eagle Scout project and to provide programs to people living with cancer in their lives.

Additional information may be found on the
Alex Boyes Memorial 5k Run / Walk Facebook Site

New BSA Youth Protection Regulations - Effective 6/1/2010

Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.

To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies:

Effective June 1, 2010:

  • Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.
  • New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. A registration number is not required in order to take and complete the training.
  • Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
