Hi Folks,

Just wanted to e-mail to give you the rules being used at the District
Pinewood Derby on March 12, as well as to re-send the sign-up sheet to make
sure that all the scouts who can get a change to come out! The rules from
Lauren Leatherbarrow are copied below, and the flyer is an attachment to
this e-mail! Good luck to all the scouts who will be participating!

TRIUNE DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY RULES 2011

These are the SIMPLE rules we will use for our District Pinewood Derby
racing.

These rules may differ from your Pack's Race, so be sure to read and abide
by the rules for this event.

ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACES

Following are the inspection points and rules:

1.The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall
be considered final.
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches and the width
shall not exceed 2 ¾" inches.
3. The BSA wheels & axles provided in the kit must be used in the slots. The
wood block may be shaped any way that is desired.
4. The car must have 1 ¾" clearance between the wheels and 3/8" underneath
the body.
5. The car must use only gravity power – no power assist devices like rubber
bands or magnets.
6. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
7. Only one dry lubrication is allowed before the beginning of the first
race.

8. The car must have been made in 2011.  Purchased or pre-cut not allowed –
HONOR SYSTEM.
9. Anything else goes that does not interfere with other people's cars –
INNOVATE and EDUCATE.

10.  Each winner will be asked to make a statement upon receipt of their
award about their best speed secrets.

Each car must pass inspection before it will be allowed to compete and cars
that do not meet these specifications may not compete.  Once the car is
inspected it cannot be touched until after the racing.

Remember the officials for this Derby are volunteers.  Before you criticize
their decisions, be prepared to take their place.  The goal is to have FUN,
teach skills, cooperation and share knowledge.

Best,

Lou Perseghin. District Director.
