Dear Scouts and Parents,

Thank you to all of the parents who have stepped forward and said they would contribute to the bake sale.  We could still use a few more commitments on baking goods and helping on Sunday at the coffee hour after services at St. Thomas.  All Scouts and parents will need to be there no later than 11:30 a.m. to set up and be prepared.

In addition to hosting coffee hour will also be conducting a show and sell at St. Thomas.  In addition to St. Thomas Mr. Livingston will be asking volunteers to help one of our Cub parents Ms. Christian Waters who has arranged a Show and Sell at her Church this Sunday.  We will be looking for some Cub parents and Cubs to help out with that this Sunday as well.  The time commitment is approximately an hour and a half.

This weekend will be a regular meeting with Cubs Scouts meeting at 1:00 p.m. and Webelos meeting at 3:00 p.m. Boy Scouts will meet at 1530 hrs (3:30 p.m.)  Class "A" uniform is the uniform for the day.

The normal Popcorn Selling schedule will continue.  The Cub Scouts will sell per the scheduled hours at the Bala Cynwyd Post Office and the Boy Scouts will see per the schedule for the Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center.  For more information please contact Mr. Walt Livingston, our Popcorn Kernel.  He may be reached at 215-801-8094.

While Mr. Livingston has put the word out, I can only echo how important and critical it is for every parent to decide to commit to one hour as a site supervisor.  If 23 parents commit to two hours that would be more than 45 hours which would translate into $9,000.00 worth of sales.  Considering the more than $4,200 Mr. Livingston has reported we have already earned that would easily get us to our goal.

I want to thank Mr. Livingston for his hard work and dedication as our Popcorn Leader and to thank those parents who have already come forward and made a big difference.  For fear of leaving out some same names, to those of you have turned in some extraordinary orders beyond the individual Scout commitment I can only say thank you.

Also, next weekend 15-17 October is the Triune District Camporee.  This is going to be a tremendous logistical challenge and we will need all the transportation assets we can find.  We will not have the van for usage that weekend so we are going to have to make alternate arrangements to transport our Scouts.  If you can help out, please let us know this Saturday.

On another note if you have not registered for the Scout year please do so.  It appears we may hit another record year for new memberships and we need to understand what our rosters look like for accurate planning.   As usual there is much to do and time is quickly passing by.  We ask for your patience and support as we continue to grow and develop our Scout program into the one of the best programs in the City.  We cannot do this if you are not excited about the program and what is in store for your Scout.

The possibilities are endless, but no one is going to make it possible for us, if we are not willing to make it possible for ourselves.  This will require work, commitment, and a pledge on your part on what you can do.  This is not to measure you against anyone else.  It is understandable that each of us have our burdens and our blessings and at times one may out weigh the other.  But search and find what you can do and measure yourself against the commitment you make.

For our Scouts they will have to decide, if they will be a good Scout troop or a Great Scout Troop. The difference is the commitment they will make to themselves and each other.  For our Cubs we have to start them off with the knowledge that expectations will be high and they can meet them.  We have a good Scout program, but we have the potential for a Great Scout Program.  The decision is up to us on where we want to go.

What you do this weekend will matter.  If you do nothing this weekend for the Scout program that will mean we will benefit from nothing.  If you do something we will benefit from that something. Something with something always adds up to something we gain.  Nothing adds no values and makes no contribution and actually takes away from us what you can contribute.  Therefore something is always better than nothing no matter how small.

Thank you,

Yours in Scouting,
